a4 Literary is open for submissions. Our agents are on the lookout for smart and original fiction, non-fiction, poetry and writing for the screen and stage.
Please read the following guidelines before submitting a preliminary pitch for consideration by our agents.
Please submit your pitch to our general submissions email: submissions@a4literary.com
We prefer to receive submissions as Microsoft Word documents. Please format in double-spaced 12pt Times New Roman font. We do not accept postal submissions.
For fiction (novels and short stories), please send a short synopsis of the book together with the first three chapters or approximately 50 pages, whichever is the greater.
For narrative non-fiction, please send a short overview and up to 10,000 words of sample writing. For subject-led non-fiction, please provide a comprehensive overview together with no less than 5,000 words of sample writing.
In the body of your email, please tell us a bit about who you are and why you’re best placed to write this book. If you have any previous writing credits or qualifications, let us know about them. Please also ensure to include your up-to-date contact details and country of residence.
Please let us know if you are submitting to other agencies and/or already have interest from other agents, and keep us informed if you receive interest from other agents while your book is on submission to us.
Please note we are not currently accepting submissions for illustrated children’s books or purely academic works.
Due to the volume of submissions received, it is not always possible for us to respond to all submissions. If you have not heard from us within three months, unfortunately this means we will not be continuing with your submission.
